To begin, I've been a Nashville resident since 1989. When I was the Director of Operations for a company that owned several live music venues and restaurants in downtown Nashville, we changed payment processors several times. One was overcharging us. Another SAID that they would save us money, but in fact, lowered certain costs and added fees elsewhere to make that money back. Also, they did not disclose ALL of the fees to us, or give us tips on how to keep our processing costs down. A third one was very assertive in getting our business, but after we switched, the customer service was poor, and I never got a call back from the representative... even when I wanted to buy more equipment and add an account. A representative for a FOURTH payment processor walked in on a Friday afternoon, and my first reaction was to get rid of him, because he didn't have an appointment, and I was very busy. However, he offered me something BEYOND lower rates and better service... he offered to teach me about payment processing and to show me how to decipher my monthly statements. This guy was honest... I could see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. He sincerely wanted to help business owners, and just happened to have found a way to make a living doing that. He was in that 10% of payment processors who were truthful and wanted to keep our account forever... not just make a few bucks off of us and forget about us.
