Spas and Things celebrates twenty-three (23) years of service in 2012. Our store is in Florence, SC, which is in the Northeast corner of our state. We are almost equal distance from the state capitol of Columbia, and Myrtle Beach. We are also centrally located between Charlotte, NC (the largest city in the area) and Charleston, SC (the oldest city in the state.) Historically the area’s claim to fame is the Revolutionary War General Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox) who made his headquarters in the river swamps near here. According to historians, men such as Marion and his small band of men kept the British bottled up and allowed Washington and others time to train the Continental Army. The movie “The Patriot” starring Mel Gibson was loosely based on Marion’s life. The City of Florence was begun as a railroad hub and was named for Florence Harllee, the daughter of William Harllee, president of the Wilmington and Manchester Railroad. Today the CSX Railroad still maintains a large yard here. Two interstate highways intersect just outside of town and the third is just a few miles north. Florence happens to be half way between New York and Miami and not surprisingly has quite a number of motels. Spas and Things was begun in 1989 when the pool company where most of us were employed was sold and the new owners decided to change the direction of that company. We began Spas and Things to fill the void created by that change. As our name suggests, we did not plan on building swimming pools; however previous customers asked “could we not build just one more pool?” One more pool became more and more pools and today swimming pools are an integral part of what we do. Spas and Things does above ground pools, vinyl lined in ground pools, spas/hot tubs, residential maintenance, and repairs on all types of residential pools. Our people are experienced and extremely talented. We are proud that they have won a number of awards for design and construction excellence. We also maintain a Retail Outlet that not only carries spa items but chemicals, accessories, and parts for pools as well. There is also a well equipped water analysis lab on site to help you maintain sparkling, clear, and chemically safe recreational water. Stop by 2027 W. Evans Street in Florence and meet the staff.
